The Course:
The course will be 75% singletrack and 25% dirt/gravel service roads...and it'll kick your ass. Our 50k runners will suffer thru 7-8000ft of elevation gain on some of the roughest trails Kitsap has to offer. Both 25k and 50k runners will enjoy some beautiful views from the summit and ridges of Green Mountain. The course will be well-marked again with surveyor's ribbon and bright yellow signs at critical intersections.
Ruck Option:
Ruckers will need to carry a backpack/rucksack that weighs between 20 and 30 lbs (not counting water or food used in race). All ruck division finishers will get a Dirty Turtle rucking patch!
Aid Stations:
Expect good food, friendly faces, and possibly some PBR. We'll have a solid assortment of foods --chips, quesadillas, guacamole, watermelon, and an assortment of candy and sugary goodness. Keep in mind that this is a cupless race, so don’t forget to bring a hydration bladder to fill up!
Post Race Food:
Typically we have a food truck at the finish - keep your eyes peeled for updates re: 2024 race. All runners will have their post-race meal pre-paid for. Bring a chair and BYOB and enjoy some post race hang out time with friends.
Camping:
Camping at Green Mountain Horse Camp will be available this weekend, from Friday thru Sunday. There are vault toilets available, but no potable water or showers, so make sure to bring your own. Campsites are first come, first serve. We have always had plenty of sites available for tents. dirtbag rigs, and small campers. There are some pull-thru sites available as well.

What is included in your entry fee?
We offer a well-organized event with a fully marked course, exciting aid stations with lots of food, and finisher awards. The top 2 men/women also receive awards. Also included in your entry fee is a post-race meal and drinks. Merchandise is extra, please bring cash or card. We have t-shirts available, as well as Evergreen Turtle Rocket hats/stickers.
Refund Policy:
Since the vast majority of race costs are incurred prior to a race and are non-refundable, we do not issue refunds for race registrations. Merchandise must be picked up at the race you registered for.
Bib Transfer:
We allow bib transfer, but it must be done thru Ultrasignup, and it must be completed no later than 7 days prior to race day.
Changing Distance:
We allow runners to switch distance. This must be completed no later than 7 days prior to race day. Runners can edit their registration/switch distances using Ultrasignup. Generally, our 50k registration costs more than the 25k. Runners swapping for a longer distance will need to pay the remaining cost difference. There will be no refunds to those runners who are swapping for the shorter distance. To do this, please log into your Ultrasignup account and under your name, choose “registration history.” From there you can edit your registration.
Race Cancellation/Postponement:
Our goal is always to provide an enjoyable, safe race experience. Despite our best efforts though, there may be circumstances outside of our control which require us to cancel the race. Some of these possibilities include wildfires, hazardous air quality, unanticipated road/trail closures, dangerous animals on the course, hazardous weather (lightning/wind storms), or other natural or human-caused acts. We never want to cancel a race; and will do so only if the safety risk is great. If the race is cancelled, runners may defer 100% of their entry to the following year.
Discrimination:
We do not discriminate based on gender, race, age, religion, disability.
Dogs:
Unfortunately, our race insurance does not allow for dogs on the course, but well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome at Horse Camp!
Hydration:
All runners/ruckers are required to carry at least 1 ONE LITER capacity hydration bladder. 50k runners should consider a 1.5-2L capacity, as there are longer stretches between aid stations on the second half of the race.
Trail Etiquette:
Please be courteous of other trail users, other runners, and volunteers. If you come across other hikers or trail users, please alert them of your presence and give them a chance to move over for you to pass. Please yield to faster runners when feasible.
One Ear Bud Only:
If you must wear headphones, they may only be in one ear, and the volume must be low enough that you can hear others around you.
Banning Individuals:
Although rare, ETRR reserves the right to ban individuals from our events who harass, threaten, bully, or otherwise demonstrate unsportsmanslike behavior towards our volunteers or other runners. This includes both online and in person actions. Banning can also occur when racers refuse to follow race rules or directions from volunteers during an event.
Disqualification:
Disqualification occurs when an individual breaks race rules (with or without intention to cheat), or if they endanger themselves, other runners, or volunteers. No cheating, course-cutting, littering, or any behavior deemed unsportsmanslike.
Volunteering:
Our homegrown race is kept alive by volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, please check back here for a link to sign up, or send a message thru the “Contact us” form.
New for 2024 – volunteer perks!
Upon completion of a volunteer shift, you will be emailed a discount code that can be used at checkout (when you register) for following year’s Dirty Turtle. The code will expire after 1 year. Codes are not given out until after the volunteer has fulfilled their shift. The coupon amounts are as follows:
The discount codes are a thank you gift and ultimately the race director reserve the right to not give out discount codes if they feel the volunteer has not adequately fulfilled the duties of the shift, left early without prior communication, or violated any of the Dirty Turtle policies. If we choose not to give you a code, we will communicate with you after the race the reasons why. In order to be eligible for any of the volunteer perks, we encourage you to sign up or email in advance of the race. We have a set number of volunteers needed per shift and once those are full, there will be no volunteer codes given out to extras who show up on race day (i.e. if you are signed up to work an aid station, but you bring along 3 friends who did not sign up, those 3 friends are not eligible for a volunteer code unless they get approval from our volunteer coordinator that there was still a need for extra help).
